Denmark - Danish Economic Councils

The Danish Economic Councils is an independent economic advisory body. The primary objective of the institution is to provide independent analysis and policy advice to Danish policy makers.

As of 2017, the Chair of the Danish Economic Council has been appointed national productivity board in Denmark. This includes the following responsibilities:

  • Surveying productivity developments in the Danish economy
  • Analyzing the developments of the determinants of productivity and international competitiveness in the Danish economy
  • Advising on productivity enhancing policy initiatives
  • Assessing the effects of productivity enhancing policy initiatives

The establishment of a Danish national productivity board follows the decision of the European Council that recommends Eurozone member states to establish national productivity boards and which encourages other member states to establish similar bodies.

The European Council justifies the recommendation with the slowdown of the potential economic growth in Europe since 2000.
