The Spanish Productivity Council was established on 30 July 2024. It is a collegiate body tasked with analysing productivity and competitiveness developments, their distributive implications in Spain, as well as public policies that affect these dimensions. The Council prepares its work plan autonomously, which identifies relevant areas of study, and produces analyses, opinions, and an annual report.
The Spanish Productivity Council may develop and publish independent economic and statistical analyses, either on its own initiative or at the request of the Government, aimed at evaluating and diagnosing the productivity and competitiveness of the Spanish economy. It may also issue public opinions on economic policies designed to improve productivity and competitiveness. The Council draws up an annual report summarising its analyses and work, which is published by the end of each year.
The Council is composed of a chairman, a vice-chairman, 14 members. The Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Business provides secretarial support.
