International institutions and fora

Information on the EU's international relations and participation with numerous international organisations.

International relations

The European Commission participates in a number of international organisations and fora including the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the G7, G20, regional development banks, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

In the interest of euro area countries, and to maximise their influence on the world stage, the Commission also helps governments adopt common positions on important economic, financial and development issues.

The Commission has also proposed the eventual move towards common representation in some institutions, under its plan for a deeper and fairer economic and monetary union.
