Latest business and consumer surveys

Regular harmonised surveys are conducted by the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN) for different sectors of the economies in the European Union (EU) and in the applicant countries.

March 2025 : Economic Sentiment and Employment Expectations down in the EU and the euro area

In March 2025, the Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) decreased in both the EU (-0.9 points to 96.0) and the euro area (-1.1 points to 95.2).  The Employment Expectations Indicator (EEI) also declined in both areas (EU:  0.7 points to 97.7, euro area: -0.7 points to 96.7). Both indicators score below their long-term average of 100.

March 2025 : Flash Consumer Confidence Indicator for the EU and the euro area

In March 2025, DG ECFIN’s flash estimate of the consumer confidence indicator fell by 1.0 percentage point (pp.) in the EU and by 0.9 pps. in the euro area. Down to -13.9 (EU) and -14.5 (euro area) points, consumer confidence veered further away from its long-term average again.
