Latest business and consumer surveys

Regular harmonised surveys are conducted by the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN) for different sectors of the economies in the European Union (EU) and in the applicant countries.

December 2024 : Economic Sentiment and Employment Expectations down in the EU and the euro area

In December 2024, the Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) decreased in both the EU (-1.7 points to 94.5) and the euro area (-1.9 points to 93.7).  The Employment Expectations Indicator (EEI) also declined in both areas (EU: -1.0 point to 98.4, euro area: -1.4 points to 97.3). Both indicators score below their long-term average of 100.

December 2024 : Flash Consumer Confidence Indicator for the EU and the euro area

In December 2024, DG ECFIN’s flash estimate of the consumer confidence indicator fell by 1.0 percentage points (pps.) in the EU and by 0.7 pps. in the euro area. Down to -13.4 (EU) and -14.5 (euro area) points, consumer confidence descended for the second month in a row, moving further below its long-term average.
