August 2026 : Economic Sentiment and Employment Expectations pick up in both the EU and the euro area
In August 2026, the Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) increased in both the EU (+1.0 to 98.2) and the euro area (+1.3 points to 98.4). The Employment Expectations Indicator (EEI) also picked up compared to July (EU: +1.2 points to 99.0; euro area: +1.5 points to 98.9). Both indicators have returned close to their long-term averages of 100.
August 2026 : Flash Consumer Confidence Indicator for the EU and the euro area
In August 2026, DG ECFIN’s flash estimate of the consumer confidence indicator remained broadly stable in the EU (+0.1 percentage points (pps)) and edged up in the euro area (+0.4 pps) compared to July. At -15.0 (EU) and -15.5 points (euro area), consumer confidence remains below its long-term average.
