Ameco Online release note 21/05/2026
An update to chapter 16.5 (‘Net expenditure growth and components’) incorporating the results of the spring forecast 2026 will become available only after today’s release. Chapter 16.5 has hence been removed temporarily and will be made available again on 03/06/ with updated results. The ‘Net expenditure growth and components’ series released with the autumn forecast 2025 remain available in the Ameco archive section at AMECO Archive - Economy and Finance - European Commission.
Ameco Online data is now published with a new interface, based on the dissemination solution used by Eurostat. The old interface will remain accessible until November 2026 with the same data content as the new interface and will be decommissioned before the release of the autumn 2026 forecast.
Ameco Online release note 12/12/2025
With this release, the following changes compared to the release of 17/11/2025 apply:
- Household sector saving (ASGH, ASNH, USGH, USNH) for the EA21 removed due to issues with consolidation
- Population 15-64 (NPAN) for CYP for 2022 corrected
- Population series (NPCN, NPAN, NPAN1, NPON, NPON1, NPTN) for AUS, NZL for 2024 removed
- Purchasing power parities (KNP) and all series expressed in PPS (UNIT 212) corrected for CAN, MEX, KOR, AUS, NZL
- Chapter 16.5 with net expenditure growth series added, as of 12/12/2025 also including series on nationally financed defence expenditure, nationally financed defence investment and national co-financing of EU programmes as far as available
- Xlsx-files for the release reformatted to match previous releases
Ameco Online release note 17/11/2025
With this release, the following changes apply to the data scope in Ameco Online:
- Data for the EA21 aggregate have been added for most - though not yet all - series for which an EA20 aggregate is already available.
- The following series on one-off and discretionary fiscal measures have been removed from chapter 17.1: UOOMSE, UDMGCR, UDMGKTR, UOOMSR, UDMGKE, UDMGCE, UOOMS.
These series will be updated and reintroduced, together with additional fiscal indicators required for the calculation of the net expenditure growth indicator, in a new subchapter 16.5.
This database update is currently scheduled for 25/11/2025 in the context of the European Semester Autumn package.
Database
The database contains data for the EU, the euro area, EU Member States, candidate countries and other OECD countries, for a total of over 40 countries. Data is organized in eighteen chapters, from population and employment via main national accounts aggregates such as gross domestic product to sector accounts and the cyclical adjustment of public finance variables.
To ensure that the Commission's analyses are verifiable and transparent to the public, AMECO data is made available free of charge.

Note: With the spring forecast 2025, the reference year for chain-linked volumes measures, and with them the base year for implicit deflators, have changed from 2015 to 2020.

Forecasts
AMECO is updated with every full release of macro-economic forecasts by the Commission. In between the full forecast releases, AMECO is not updated. For results of the interim forecast exercises, please consult the Economic forecasts.
Until the autumn forecast 2020 release, on the occasion of an update, AMECO data was also packed in four documents that accompany the forecast release:
The Statistical annex to European Economy, which gives long time series for a selection of important macro-economic variables, both by variable and by country. (NB: The data overlaps partially with the tables in the statistical annex included within the main forecast document.)
General Government Data, which gives more detail on series from the general government sector, for size reasons split in two parts:
- Part I: Tables by country
Part II: Tables by series - Data on the cyclical adjustment of Budget Balances, which are important for fiscal surveillance.
Explanatory note
Time series
Data for Member States and candidate countries are based on the ESA 2010 system for the last period and on ESA 95 and ESA 79 for the earlier years. Data for other OECD countries are based on the SNA 2008.
Where appropriate, discontinuities of the levels of these series have been removed by applying the growth rates of the old series to the levels of the new series.
Data sources
The main data source is Eurostat (the Statistical Office of the European Commission), complemented, where necessary, by other appropriate national and international sources. Authoritative official statistics are available from Eurostat's online database, including the latest revisions to historical data.
Data in national currency for the euro area countries
Starting from 2002, euro area countries publish national series in EUR. National currency data for all years prior to the switch of the country to euro have been converted using the irrevocably fixed euro conversion rate. For presentation purposes, the currency denomination has changed, with the prefix EURO and the ISO code of the former currency (e.g. EURO-BEF for Belgium). This approach conserves the historical continuity of national series. However, cross country comparisons and aggregations should continue to be based only on historical series established in ECU up to 1998 and their statistical continuation in EUR from 1999 onwards. Exchange rates and purchasing power parities have also been converted in the same manner.
Forecasts
The Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs produces, under its own responsibility, short-term economic forecasts twice a year, in the Spring and in the Autumn. These forecasts are included in AMECO.
