This paper analyses total factor productivity growth developments in the EU as compared to the US on the basis of the latest vintage of the EU-KLEMS database.
Highlights
- The productivity contribution of TFP has been declining over the past two decades both in the EU and the US.
- The TFP growth advantage of the US over the EU comes is in sectors such as services.
- Traditional manufacturing provides a positive contribution to overall TFP growth in the EU, but not in the US.
- Econometric analysis shows that the elasticity of TFP to intangible capital has dropped by about half since the post GFC recovery in the EU.
