Explanation and aims of specific monitoring. Reviews of the progress on policy measures divided by country.
Specific monitoring is a form of intensified dialogue between the European Commission and national authorities that aims to help EU countries address macroeconomic imbalances that could negatively affect their own economic stability or that of the euro area or the EU.
Aim of specific monitoring
Specific monitoring involves
fact finding missions by European Commission officials to EU countries
follow-up reports covering economic developments and the implementation of relevant policy measures
Countries identified as having "imbalances" or "excessive imbalances" by in-depth review (IDR) receive specific monitoring adapted to the degree and nature of their imbalances.
Before 2016, specific monitoring concerned countries with "excessive imbalances", as well as selected euro area countries with imbalances of relevance to the euro area.
