Regular harmonised surveys are conducted by the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN) for different sectors of the economies in the European Union (EU) and in the applicant countries.

April 2024: Economic Sentiment marginally down in the EU and the euro area, Employment Expectations decline

In April 2024, the Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) declined marginally in both the EU (-0.3 points to 96.2) and the euro area (-0.6 points to 95.6).  The Employment Expectations Indicator (EEI) declined slightly more markedly in both areas (EU: -0.5 points to 101.7, euro area: -0.7 points to 101.8). Contrary to the ESI, the EEI continued to score above its long-term average.

April 2024: Flash Consumer Confidence Indicator for the EU and the euro area

In April 2024, DG ECFIN’s flash estimate of the consumer confidence indicator remained stable in the EU and broadly stable in the euro area (±0.0 percentage points (pps.) and +0.2 pps. compared to March, respectively). At -15.2 (EU) and -14.7 (euro area) points, consumer confidence still scores well below the long-term average.
