September 2026 : Economic Sentiment and Employment Expectations decline in both the EU and the euro area
In September 2026, the Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) declined mildly in both the EU (-0.4 points to 97.9) and the euro area (-0.5 points to 97.9) compared to August. The Employment Expectations Indicator (EEI) receded slightly more markedly (EU: -0.6 points to 98.3; euro area: -1.3 points to 97.5). After trending upwards since May, both indicators again drifted away from their long-term average of 100.
September 2026 : Flash Consumer Confidence Indicator for the EU and the euro area
In September 2026, DG ECFIN’s flash estimate of the consumer confidence indicator fell by 0.8 percentage points (pps) in the EU and by 1.0 pps in the euro area. Down to -15.8 (EU) and -16.5 points (euro area), consumer confidence veered away from its long-term average again, after four months of recovery.
